Street Cred

Receiving the Community Award at Foco Flava 3

As a street dancer, Jackson (he/him) co-organized Rockers Rumble, one of the largest breakdance events in the US, for three years in Colorado, before moving to Southern California, where he grew to be a notable member of the Locking community, supporting Funktion Point. As he ventured into the world of partner dance, Jackson took on a leadership role in organizing the Latin Hustle community with LA Hustle Movement. He is now co-hosting the bi-weekly open session "Soulful Sundays" bridging the LA local Locking, Whacking and Hustle communities. Jackson reps the mightyrockmorez crew.

Coming from a BFA in Film Production at the University of Colorado Boulder, Jackson had contributed significantly to his dance communities through videography. He has documented and produced many video projects for Hip Hop events such as Block Party, Freestyle Session and Queenz of Hip Hop. His work also extended to experimental dance experiences such as Murmuration, Contemporary Breaking and MOVE. A notable achievement in his merge of film and dance background is the creation of the short documentary of Colorado's Breaking history, "Colorado Breaking Roots." Jackson was commemorated for his contributions to the Colorado Hip Hop community with the Community Award at Foco Flava 3.

Growing up in a frugal Chinese family, the culture of repurposing and conserving resources has always been part of Jackson's life, so he naturally became very passionate about environmental issues. Inspired by the film "Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution", Jackson started fervently researching environmental solutions and implementing greener practices on the set of Netflix's "GLOW", where he worked as the Writers' PA for two seasons. After seeing the impact he had on set, Jackson flowed into the role of the Eco Production Coordinator for more shows including Netflix's "Space Force" and an Apple show and supporting roles for green production training for shows including Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," Barry Jenkins' "Underground Railroad" and CBS's "Evil" through Earth Angel Sustainable Production Services, where he also acted as a researcher, designer, copywriter, presenter and video producer. During his time at Earth Angel, he earned the TRUE Zero Waste Advisor title by the Green Business Certification Inc.

Jackson's passion in environmental research also led him to earn the Certificate in Sustainability at the University of California Los Angeles and become the Arts & Media Coordinator at Sunrise Movement Los Angeles, coordinating, filming and editing social media videos with immediate deadlines focusing on policy communication, action mobilization and recruitment. He also strategized with Sunrise National's Video Network and trained the LA hub for brand consistency. Jackson extended his social media video work to The Climate Reality Project Los Angeles, where, as a trained Climate Reality Leader, he also strategized, created and presented a Climate Reality training focused on Environmental Justice for the LA Cleantech Incubator's Founders Business Accelerator. Jackson also served as an Education Ambassador at Oceanic Global for their partnership with Corona USA's "Protect Our Beaches" campaign.

Jackson is now developing better communication methods about environmental solutions and introducing friends to dance as a climate anxiety-relief tool. You can find him at an underground LA hip hop jam yelling at bboys about shoes made from upcycled coffee waste, carbon sequestration by permaculture, and effective altruism. He also speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.
